    1995 XP 800 Project

Just picked it up pretty cheap. Going to be a long winter project and require hours and hours cleaning it up.

Any tips or comments are much appreciated as I have little experience with this model ski.

Also, any tricks for cleaning up the oxidized gelcoat?

Does the thing Run? For the gelcoat, you could try what this guy did on his GSX's. http://www.luxury4play.com/mid-west/...utolavish.html It sounds like a ton of work the way he did it though. I would think a wet sand followed by a polishing compound and wax would work as well.

According to the previous owner it ran before he put it on the trailer 1-2 years ago. I'm going in expecting the motor to be junk, but who knows.

Thanks so much for that link, that is very helpful! I'm going to start with a heavy compound, but I expect wet sanding will be necessary. Taping up the decals is going to be a pain but worth it to not damage them.

wet sand for sure it will come out nice
big time pita to save the decals, i'd dump them myself but I can accept the reasons behind the choice.
its a steal at 400 not matter what
and why have we seen like 4 or 5 of these cropping up lately super cheap , just a run on 95 800's ?
also i've read probably 20 times that they made 500
but somebody recently posted 2500, anybody wanna chime in on the correct # ?

If it were any other year XP, I would say yeah dump the decals....but it's a rare ski and the original decals add to it
