how much oil after engine rebuild

    2006 RXP

finished putting engine back together, manual says 4.5 L is oil capacity.

put in 5 L of oil, and oil only shows on the bottom of the indent on the dip stick.

used level to check engine is level.

    engine starts and runs fine.

    any thoughts?

You have to check the oil level when the engine is warm, let it warm up idle for 30 seconds shut it off, wait another 30 seconds check the level. perfect oil level is right in between the bends on the dipstick

Fresh rebuild on the engine, the engine calls for 4.1 quarts.

Read when warm. You need it to between the bends.

    You need QUARTS not LITERS

This is WRONG; you are repeating a typo in the earlier manuals. The proper amount is 4.5 Liters, which equals 4.8 quarts. (the early manuals have the wrong number for quarts...) This should be a sticky.

After doing a complete re-build three weeks ago, mine took 4.5 quarts to get it to the middle of the stick. I checked it warm when I got it back from a 10 min test ride and it was down a little. I like mine towards the top of the stick. I have seen no gain running in the middle and at 9,000 + rpm a little extra oil makes me feel better. I always put a level on the ski and usually have to crank the trailer almost all the way down to make it sit level. I know JP1300r also runs his towards the top of the stick and having the worlds fastest supercharged X-ski, he would know what works....

Takes 4.5q on a rebuild regardless of what the manual says.
