    Vent under hood for what?

While getting my '94 650SL running, I noticed a small vent under the hood. I have no clue where it should be connected. The black rubber "snorkel" is see on the left side of the steering tower (as you look front to back), has a clear line attached. Is this a vent for the oil tank? I seen the oil tank has a vent filter snugged into a rubber holder just below the tank.

probably your battery vent. Used for the older style batteries that have a side vent.

    Battery or fuel tank vent

Great! I would have never thought it would run all the way back there. Makes sense to have a vent for the battery, I'll have to get some more vinyl tubing. Previous owner must have disconnected it and forgot about it.

    Thanks fro the reply
