97XXP Speedo sensor
How hard is it to change the speedo sensor/paddle on a 97 XP. Does anyone have a step by step guide?

easy...dont use it. its way off anyways. if you want reliable speeds get a water proof handheld gps and a handlebar mount.

Yeah I know but I have one around so I want to change it so the speedo at least works. Does anyone have tips on how to change it?

Couple of issues, the inlaid nuts to the plastic housing will strip out and make it almost impossible to loosen. Use a impact screwdriver to loosen those nuts from the bottom of the ride plate. They will strip out if you dont have the correct screwdriver. The other issue is the wires will not come through the hull without removing the plastic wire harness. I bought a tool on ebay for about 12 bucks.
It is the only way I know of unless you have a real narrow straw that you can use. Those I am sure are cheaper than this tool.
