    08 RXPX trouble starting

    Hey All,

Having trouble with my ski starting. I cleaned the key and the dess post, new battery (time for one anyway,) but it still only clicks if i hit start. If i pull the key and pop it back on sometimes it will start. I loosened the connections on the solenoid cleaned them up and it seems to be a bit better. Am I right to assume the solenoid is going bad? if so how do i get it out? it looks like its riveted on the fuse box bracket.

    definitely the starter relay

Should just slide out (plastic clip holding it on one side)

    Holy crap thats cheap.

Yes definately sounds like the relay. I had to change mine on my TX when we went to Laughlin last month. Was doing the same thing you descridbe. Just slides out like Mac man said, but the new one I got it had a different base. I just zip tied it to the bracket.

Damn! That's cheap. I paid 35.00 shipped on fleabay for my last one. Dealer was 45.00. It too was doing the exact same thing you described. Easy fix.

That EBAY one is the old style one. The new style are all black plastic. Not sure if it makes a big difference or not.

Jp, are the 2010's black? My 2008 is the same. Here is what the guys ad says : Start Solenoid for most all Sea Doo PWC and Boats # 278001802. Replaces 278001376 278000513 and works in place of 278002347 too. Not sure if it makes a difference either, I'll look and see when they were changed.

Just went and looked, looks like 2004 thru 2008 is part #278001802 and they must have switched in 2009/10 to part #278002347 (black one) Everything we have seen on the newer seadoo boats has gotten cheaper. Robs 2010 lost a coil this weekend at 20 hrs, the new pump has a plastic insert for the venturi and I would say this new black relay is probably made in china....

black model is meant to be a revised model that shouldnt fail as quick (eg mine 48hrs, would be no more than 100 starts)

I really don't think the old model had that many problems, If seadoo used it on the rxp's from 2004 thru 2008? I understand some people have had a bad one from time to time, but I know of many skis with well over 200 hrs with the same starter relay. From what Duke has been telling me, seadoo changed the coils in 2009 and many boats have been having issues with the new design. One of our riding buddies 2010 had a coil issue this weekend, swapped in some 2006 coils and all was well. I just figured it was another cost cutting issue and they went with a cheaper manufacturer.
