XPL/951 install, pipe or no pipe?

It's almost time to install my engine (99 XPL).

Can I install the engine half of the exhaust pipe onto the engine before I install the engine? Will it fit through the opening with the pipe installed?

Yes it will but the carbys have to be off and you have to swing it in with a hoist as you can drop it easy ,you are better off installing the whole pipe and then dropping it in together as it can be difficult to get them to seal on the flange joint in the hull.
I usually set the pipe up on the engine while it is on the bench and get all the mounts lined up correctly. I then remove the pipe and install engine only and then the pipe.To drop an engine in and install fixtures takes about 20-30 minutes depending on if its a Monday or Friday.
