Just like everything else, prep work is key.

Use oil-based paint. It's a bitch to clean up when you get it on you...but it means it's that much harder for it to come off the trailer when it dries!

I did my heaviest 2-place trailer...the one that can hold two Genesises....earlier this summer. I stripped all the removable parts off I could and hit it with a wire wheel on an angle grinder to knock any loose paint or rust off. Then I just brushed on RustOleum enamel. It took about 3 coats to get good coverage, but it came out pretty good. Obviously spraying looks better but I had to leave the Genesis on it while I painted it so I wasn't going to spray it. If you get too close to it you can tell it was bushed, but from 2-3' back, it looks great.

I just refinished a single place trailer - Unbolt / remove everything and seperate - Wire wheeled the loose stuff off, then sanded the whole thing with 150 grit to scuff existing paint and remove surface rust. Primed with Rustoleum Rusty metal primer, then several coats of Rustoleum truck bed coating. Tough, durable, non slip finish.

I had my dad's utility trailer sandblasted, and then I primed and painted it with a industrial coating from PPG. Relatively inexpensive and came out looking great. Of course I sprayed everything.

You could send all the removeable parts to a coating shop and have them powder coated. You might even find a place with an oven large enough to do the whole thing....dismantled of course.

well i got it all sanded down, and completly apart, decided to use spray paint as i dont have a lot of money and it is just a trailer, used Rust Oluem Black Enamal and have some Clear as well. has some dust in it as i dont have a booth to do it in, but should be able to sand the black with a high grit then clear and should like pretty decent, better then the white rusty it was before!
