'03 GP1300R Questions - warning light and engine light keep beeping

    Hello all,

I just bought a used stock GP1300R. The day I got it, I drove it all day and it ran perfectly fine. The next day, I topped it up with gas (87 octane) and within 10 mins of driving the engine light and warning light started beeping.

I'm assuming the best thing to do would be take it to a dealer or get the diagnostic tool but I'm wondering if anybody on here would know off the bat what this could be.

Is this thing supposed to have higher octane fuel like 91 maybe? :s

    Thanks

Hold down the button on the display until a number code comes up. See what the number is and use the search feature this site. Plenty of info on warning lights, codes etc. Check to see if it has a cat or d-plate (Search on this too). Could just be a bad temp sensor.

start the ski up and once the engine light comes on and starts beeping shut the ski off and hold the display button for 10 seconds a code will display, let us know what number it is and will let you know what the problem is.

Ok, which button exactly do I hold down? because I see it has the hours/volts and kmh/mph buttons. Do I just press the center of it??

A guy messaged me saying that it could be the cat converter going for a sh!t. I started it today and it would smoke wayyyy too much and then eventually stall and it wouldn't idle smoothly. I feel like the exhaust is clogged maybe...

mine did the same thing. cat went bad. I installed a D plate and the chip and problem gone. ski also ran a lot better too. $100 for the d plate and sensor from R&D of $1200 for a new cat from yamaha. I'm sure you can figure out the better option here!
