    Amy's New Virage

Picked up Amy's new Virage today.

It's a nice ski with a few beauty marks that can be tended to easily.

It did crank with no spark,It has had the red/purple to orange upgrade done to it. But first will drop her new battery from the SLT in it and check spark again. It's a good possiblity that it's just a battery issue,as the connections on the battery were all oxided, and the positive was actually slightly loose.

Of course it still has the gray Tempo fuel line on it,so that will get upgraded.

It's missing the rear storage bucket,so I'll be looking to find one if someone has a spare laying around let me know.

Didn't try checking compression with the low battery yet.

The reverse cable is bent where it comes out of the hull to the bucket,so that will also have to be tended to also. But the price was right to be able to do whatever is needed on it.

Pulled a compression test today after cutting hay, It's up over 120# on each cylinder dry without shooting any WD40 or such in the cyls,Not bad. Will attack the no start problem tomorrow. .....Hopefully will have time.

Did some checking today into the electric, After check power to the CDI and stator feeds, the CDI appears to be good, did the test on the stator and it appears the Hall Effect sensors are not signaling the CDI using the 9 volt battery and the Ohm meter method. Need to pull the flywheel cover and double check that the magnet and all is normal inside.

OK, I have my LED/9 volt battery stator tester I made from here that was posted on somewhere. I have used it before on the MSX, But I'll be damn if I can find the thread on it. (getting old suks) Or what the exect wire hook-up is used with it. Anyone know of the thread that explains it.

The positive comes of the 9v battery, one + lead goes in the LED and back out, also a lead is tied off the + battery side to go to the hall effect.
The the neg off the 9v has a lead.

If I remember right, the neg goes to the Gray, the postive goes to the brown, then the lead off the led goes to the Red or Green depending on which sensor your testing.

Here is one of Keith's good study on the ignition system explained .

Here is the 8-pin stator connector pinout, cribbed from the 2003 Virage Wiring Diagram (two cylinder engine).
    1 - Purple (Exciter coil)
2 - Gray (Hall Effect Ground, negative)
3 - Red (MAG Hall Effect sensor trigger)
4 - Brown (Hall Effect power, positive 8-9 volts)
5 - Green (PTO Hall Effect sensor trigger)
6 - Yellow (battery charging coil)
    7 - Red/Purple (battery charging coil)
8 - Black (Main stator ground)
