    720 direct replacement for 657x?

I am looking at buying a 95 SPX (657x motor) that is seized and was wondering if the 720 is a direct bolt in replacement? Meaning same electrical box and everything?

Years ago I did 95 spi 580 to 720. I believe the electrical was plug and play. It was just power, ground, spark plug wires and the stater. I had to use 720 RV,RV cover, carbs and exhaust.

This is a 720 motor running on 657 electronics out of a 94 SPX. Ski originally had the DESS style system, prior to converting it to the older style. Yes it will work. This was it's first fire up after rebuild.

Ok thanks everyone. I found a running 657x I might just get and drop it in. The motor in the ski is locked up. The previous owner said he flooded it and removed the water the best he could. Then it froze. So I guess start by taking the head off and seeing what's going on?

How difficult is it to remove the 657x motor? I want to do it and get a rebuilt motor but I'm afraid I won't be able able to as my mechanical ability is limited. I bought this ski on impulse and now I'm am having second thoughts if I'll be able to replace this motor. Taking it to a shop is not an option as that would well exceed what this thing is worth.

BTW I took the head off and the pistons are rusted solid to the cylinder walls.

Very easy. I would say it can be done in less than a hour.

Are you getting a good deal on a 717 seen complet ones go for 500.....The seadoo repair manuals are online PDFs had mine out in an hour. First one I ever seen first day I had it home. I Turned a wrench or two. Disconnect and remove battery first. Mark motor plate around the washers with a sharpie , leave or mark any shims to get alighnment back.. Get the partail gasket kit. Some permatex ultra silicone, redo all gray fuel feed and return hoses with black automotive type while it's out. Skip vent system.
Always a good ideal to rebuild carbs & fuel pump. Utube vids and manuals online as well.
It's probally the easiest ski to do.

No, unfortunately I could not find a motor, had no place to store it so I just sold it for parts.
