Question about removing driveshaft - support ring

The way we've been removing and installing the driveshaft is with the engine out, and doing it through the inside of the hull. There is a support ring on the driveshaft that keeps the driveshaft from being pulled out from the back.

I've been reluctant to pull hard on it, but is that the correct procedure? yank hard on the driveshaft and the support ring comes off?

    thanks.

No. The support ring slides forward and the c clip needs to be removed. Once removed, you slide the shaft backwards towards the stern and pull. The o rings are tight but a little force will allow the floating ring to come off of the shaft. Remove the pto bearings before doing this as well. If you need a how to, step by step, I can post that as well. Good luck bro!

c clip removes easily, but not sure how much force I can put on the support ring to slide it forward. It is tight. If you have a how-to, that would be great.

    thanks.

first time sliding the support ring back is a BIOTCH especially if it's a lil older or ride in salt or both.

if I put some wood blocks on either side of the driveshaft against the thru-hull, and pull hard on the driveshaft, will that knock the support ring off safely? will it be a biotch to push the support ring back on?

It suppose to be. That is what keeps the water out.
Take the pump out and put a spacer in the prop.
Put pump back on but don't overtighten. Just snug it up enough to take slack out of pump.
Then push collar back to remove c clip.

Sorry just reread your post. If c clip is removed.
Then Yank hard but watch your knuckles.
If the clip is off the only thing to hold it from coming out is the collar and it has o rings so break it loose.

Ah. I guess I'm having questions about about the bearings. Will that just slip off with the support ring?
