    No Get Up and Go?

I was out today on my 900 zxi and rode it around with a buddy on the back for about and hour. We rode fairly hard but not as rough as I usually do when I'm by myself. After an hour of riding we decided to take a quick break. I let the ski come to idle and we sat there for about 5 minutes. When we went to start again, it would not get up on plane. The motor had plenty of power. It would wind up to 7000 rpms if you nailed it, but it would not go hardly anywhere above trolling speed, and it also made a vibration when it cleared 6000 rpms.

It felt like the motor had plenty but the jet was not grabbing. It felt as if you were doing a monster burn out in a car where you nail it and it just sits there. It seemed to grab fine until I hit 4000 rpms; then it felt and sorta sounded like I was just revving it on the trailer. I pulled the seat and the engine was not running hot or anything. throttle response was good.

I figured it may have gotten sea weed clogged in the prop but when I pulled it out onto the trailer it did not have anything back there. Possibly could have fallen out when I killed the motor at the dock. It was approaching sunset at that point and I had work to do for college so I headed back.

I checked compression and it was even in all three cylinders (100psi) which is what it was when I rebuilt it.

Is this what sea weed feels like? Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance.

My 1100 is doing this. I'm thinking too much wear on the wear ring or impeller.

    Interested to hear your fix

Haven't fixed it yet. Will probably do it next season. I don't have time right now.

I was thinking impeller too. Mine has a few little dings which can cause cavitation. It went up so suddenly. That's why I was wondering if it could be something else. It ran fast and would hop up onto plane in an instant and litterally I did that, stopped, and went to start again, and it didn't work. I'll measure everything and check tolerances before replacing anything.

I'll let you know what I find though.

Again, if anyone has had experience with this I would appreciate to hear about it.

    Thanks.

Im looking at pulling mine down today, is still a touch cool to hit the water yet, want to have it right before the good weather is here.

looking up the jet from the back, looks to be aound a 3-4mm gap between the impeller and the wear ring. Manual says there should be no more than .6mm

That sounds like that is what it is. Make sure you measure the housing to make sure it is within spec so you don't buy just an impeller and find out it is still too small. Unfortunately with the way the stock design is, there is no wear ring. You have to replace the whole box if it is worn past the service limit. Hopefully not for either of us though

You have something in the prop or drive line. The prop and/or wear ring is worn. Good luck!

    Thanks for the reply.

I might try taking it out again and seeing if it was just seaweed or something that fell out before I pull it apart and measure stuff. Could something in the prop just be something simple like seaweed or would it have to be something more severe such as a rope or something to cause this?

Took my jetpump out yesterday, had a little bit of seaweed in it, maybe it had more?

Couldnt really tell a big fault with the impeller, except that it is binding in parts of the housing, local bloke said that the housing corrodes behind the SS insert buckling it out of shape. New jet pump time, $329 for a reco or $390 for a brand spanker. Have to wait for it to come from Japan however.
