    S/C spin test

2004 RXP: getting a max rpm of 7800 at 1500 ft Elevation.

I did the finger test I could get two fingers inside and with a some force it will move about 1/4" turn clockwise/counter clockwise then stops. The intake tube to the S/C is a little slick inside like oil residue. I saw a little oil trail where they both meet.

    Is this normal?

yes this is normal. You are turning the engine over by moving the impeller until
compression overcomes the force you can apply.

Some oil residue is normal. If you run a catch can it should eliminate it.

Thanks for the replies. The ski has about 61 hours on it and i just had the BRP update done for the S/C. I don't have a catch can yet. I purchased the ski from a good coworker and he had taken the ski to the dealer(few years back) before for maintenance. I also took it to the dealer to reset the maintenance beep about 3 weeks ago and at this time they said the buds was updating my ski. They did not install the pigtail.

Before all this i was at the lake(2600 Ft elevation) and was only hitting 7200 RPM. I checked to see if the pigtail was ever installed before( It wasn't ). I purchased the pigtail from the dealer and installed it myself. After installing it i took it to a different lake (1500 FT elevation) and i was hitting 7750-7800 RPM. I have a new wear ring(few hours on it) and I cleaned up the tips of the impeller. I know elevation and heat kill the power so I think that's where my rpm is going. I had a thread posted about this and many posted elevation kill power/rpm.

This is what my ski has now: intake grate, through hull exhaust, opas Block offs, Sponsons.

I'm thinking better air intake..... of course when it's cooler it will be on the rev limiter, but then you can get a better impeller
