    MFD Issues

    Hey guys,

Searched the threads and cant seem to find this exact issue,

so when i first start up my Ski ( 94 SLT 750) it does not always wake up the MFD, when it does on occasion wake it up, the RPMS displayed are 0, unless you rev it up, if you rev it up it will jump to 300 or so( obviously i know this should be in the 2,000 mark. I KNOW its NOT the MFD as ive had that MFD on my SL650 and it works fine. its also a new harness. I have disconnected the batt for about 30 minutes hooked it up, some problem...what could possibly be my issue? and how do I test for it?

no the lr controls your voltage and the yellow wire on it goes for your tach so if it's going bad your rpm's will be off or just out completly

When its running put a voltmeter on the battery and rev the engine. If it climbs over 15 or 15.5 volts you have a bad regulator.

it either works properly or it doesnt. The RPM signal to the MFD comes from the yellow wire of the stator. When the engine is spinning, you get AC voltage on that wire and the MFD reads the frequency I believe. The problem is in that circuit, since swapping the MFD does nothing. I would check the voltage regulator and see if swapping it with a good one fixes the problem. They can be found on ebay for a reasonable price. I just put my spare in my Pro, otherwise I would have let you borrow it.
