1988 JS440 shaft and impeller removal

The seal where the impeller shaft goes through the hull is leaking so I need to replace it. I started disassembling the pump and I dont know how to get the impeller off. I also dont know if the engine needs to be removed to take the shaft out completely? Thanks

Yes you need the tool to go on the back of the impeller and also have to pull the engine to get the shaft out. You can put a large screw driver through the shaft to hold it. Where are you located?

So the impeller is threaded? What does the tool look like? I've found a few on the Internet but none of them look like they would work. I'm in Gresham oregon
