Using Innovate MTX-L wideband to re-mapp ECU?

I have been reading the installation instructions on my new Innovate AFR gauge and sensor,
I claims you can re-mapp your ecu to match your desired fuel ratio?
Has anyone ever done this with success?
Or could it just be a costy mistake if not done correctly?

    Thanks,
