    stumped, carb issue, need advise

heres the deal, 96 spx, dual carbs, rebuilt, all factory settings, jets, etc, 42-45 psi pop off, new fuel lines and so on. ski idles fine, runs like a top on the flusher, but when you put in the water and go to wot , it acts like its boggin out. rode it tonight with the fa removed and seat off. same results but, if i pull the choke and close the butterflys about a 1/3 of the way, it takes off and runs great. what causes this and what fixes this? can anyone advise or direct me to someone that can. i'm about to go crazy chasing this. thanks

Not having much experience with 787s carbs , the pop off pressures seems high.I always thought 30-35 psi was the range.

Did you use the springs that came out of the carbs or did you use new springs from the kit?

carbs had two different springs in them when rebuilt, so used new ones.

I just rebuilt a set for my hx and I used silver 95 gram springs in them and it wouldnt run for shit in the water. Pop off was about 44 psi with 1.2 n/s. So I swaped out the springs for a set of 80 gram springs pop off went to 29-30 psi which is actually below spec for that boat and it runs great now. You are not getting enough fuel since pulling the choke makes it run better.

ok, the latest, reduced pop off the 35-36, unit runs better but is now rich, poor bottom end and seats are leaking. took carbs back off, new springs, back to 46 pop off, unit back to the way it was, running wise. top screws are seated as the manual states. back them off 1/2 turn and unit runs better, gets up into the higher rpm range. with this set up unit runs fair, but not the greatest, something is still off. gonna keep looking, thanks for the help, what are you thinking stan?
