2 stroke vs 4 stroke driveshafts

can someone clue me in on driveshafts? how can the 02 gp1200r, xlt1200, fx140, and 05 fx 140 ho all have the same driveshaft? asking because some models have the 2" pump extension while others don't. also whats the deal with the bearings?

They adjust for drive shaft length with spacers or different length intermediate shafts and where the splines are machined inside that style I. shaft.

Example...The FX can use the 2" extension with a short I. shaft because of the gear reduction box which places the coupler back the difference between the two shafts. Also, the FX intermediate shaft protrudes further into the hull than a GPR or XLT.

thats what i was kind of thinking. reason why i am asking is because i parted out my 01 xlt1200. parted it to put the mr-1 in it. I have the intermediate shaft in the ski but my fx driveshaft is bent. so i need a new driveshaft. will my 01 xlt1200 shaft work in a 05 pump? im new to toying around with yamaha's. work on them everyday but don't mix and match parts. just replace whats broken with what goes on that ski.

i will be running the pump extension also. i may have a gp1200 melinium edition pump also at the shop to snag a driveshaft out of if the 01 xlt shaft won't work.

Your 01 XLT drive shaft will fit the 05 pump's bearings/seals and should be 28" long VS the 00' GPR at 30". The reason it should work with the FX I. shaft is because of the 2" spacer that came on the FX pump. If you don't use the spacer I think you would have to shorten any of the drive shafts mentioned. You will also need three 2" cable extensions to connect your cables properly (if you still want reverse to work).

I have drive shafts, I. shafts, pump shoes, pump plug kits, cable extensions, etc. + aftermarket grates & ride plates available for FX, GPR & XLTs.

    PM me if interested.

i checked today at work. pulled the driveshaft out of the xlt pump that came in my ski. also pulled the bent fx140 driveshaft that i have. put them side by side and identical.

so now i have a driveshaft. i did check the gpr driveshaft and it was too long.

i will take you up on your offer for a ride plate and intake grate for an xlt1200. hoping to find all riva parts. will pm you when funds allow.

hopefully tomorrow i can take my ho pump and push out the vx110 pump shaft and install my xlt driveshaft. just one more thing to check off the list without having to spend any money.

the bearing close to the cone its not the same, you will need to remove that bearing and install the one you have on the xlt pump.the short shaft on the vx is ticker on that side.make sure not to mix the spacers inside the hub they are different also. i believe if i best remember one of the seals are also different.
you will need 28 in drive shaft 2 in ext, fx intermediate assembly to make that conversion work.+ cable ext.

cool. yeah ill figure it out on the press. i got a bearing puller too so hopefully shouldn't break anything and need to order anything new.

so far i got the vx110 stator which is same part number as an ho pump, a wear ring, 2" spacer, and the fx transom plate, and the fx intermediate shaft/ bearing assembly. ill have to order my cable extensions from bill.
