2007 Ultra LX Cavitation question. Top speed of 44mph

My brother just purchased a used 2007 ultra LX and we took it out for the first time this morning.

First of all, when you hit the gas from a stop it bounces off the rev limiter trying to go forward.

Second, We are achieving a top speed of 44mph and the RPM's are almost at red line.

Is it normal to have a bunch of rattling when id idles out of water?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I feel bad he just dropped 5K and is having these issues. I would of water tested it when we picked it up but it had been pouring for the last week. It also has a year left on the warranty which it will go in for but I wanted to know if anyone else has run into this issue.

I was thinking prop too but didn't want to tell him that after his new purchase. I'm thinking take it in and let them tell him the problem and see where it goes from there. How bad is it to change the prop? Does it shim for the pump clearance like the Ultra 150's?

No, if its worn, it needs to be replaced or sent to a prop shop for rebuilding......

Not to hard to replace....just have to have an impellar tool, which is the same for 150, 15f........

Got a call back today and the found the impeller and wear ring worn and the cavitation cone missing. They didn't give a price yet so I don't know what he is looking at for replacement. Haven't heard of a cavitation cone before. Should this be an easy fix? Expensive?

Where did you buy the LX from, a private party or dealer?
Something worn or missing is not considered a defect so the warranty would not cover.
You've got to talk to the seller about it.
You are looking at close to $1000 in parts and labor.
While at it, upgrade the pump shaft/bearing to 2011 300X spec.

Private party. Picked it up for $5,000 with brand new triton trailer so what we felt was a good deal doesn't seem to be going that way. The shaft and bearing should be upgraded?

If you are getting into rebuilding the pump yes you should upgrade. Personally I have 400 hours on my pump with the original setup just changing the bearings and inspecting everything regularly. The new setup is definately better and if I ever had a real problem with this pump or shaft I would change it all out but I will have this ski for at least another year so time will tell how long it will last.
