    slt750 electrical issues?

So my slt750 just decided to stop working. It does absolutely nothing when I hit the start switch. At first I thought it was the relay, but after replacing that it still doesn't start. If I bridge the relay it starts fine. When I hit the start the display is sometimes on, but once the switch is pressed it goes off immediately. Anyone have any idea what I need to look into next?

Sounds like a loose connection somewhere.... Probably grounding or at the battery connections......

but I can get it to start if I bridge the relay. Could that still be the problem?

Check the start button connections on BOTH ends.

    The rubber button unscrews

Its spring again, meaning I get to work on my watercrafts again! So today I took another look at this one. I discovered by holding a multimeter to the ground and the red input power wire they are connected. I am assuming this is incorrect, right? So where would it be grounded? Is this a common problem with the starters? I would pull the starter but I don't know if I can with the engine in.

    Thanks , Kyle

I would pop open the electrical box, take a couple of pics, and post them on here for us to look at. I haven't run into a problem with a starter shorting internally (I also haven't worked on a ton of motors), but i would imagine you are more likely to find issues in the ebox than anywhere else.....

I just disconnected the wire to the solenoid but its still shorting. I really don't think its the electrical box. Here is a picture anyway. Any other ideas?

Where is the ground wire from the solenoid connected in the ebox? I believe it should be under one of the ears on the CDI.

DC Motors will show continuity if checked with a meter.
Not sure what you mean by "shorting".
Which wire to the solenoid did you disconnect?
Does it still start when jumping the solenoid? If so, the starter itself should be fine.
You can check the Y/R terminal next to the fuse with a meter - you should be getting 12 volts when the starter button is pushed. This is the return wire from the starter button. If not, see post #4.
If you do get 12v, The solenoid should click. If it doesn't , replace solenoid.
If it clicks and the starter doesn't turn, Check for voltage at the input side of the solenoid. Should be 12v. If not, check battery connection. If you have 12v, check the voltage at the output side of the solenoid. Should be 12v with the button pushed. No voltage, replace solenoid. If 12v and starter doesn't turn, check for voltage at the + terminal of the starter. If not, trace / replace positive cable from ebox to starter. If 12v is present at the starter with button pushed, check the motor baseplate for proper ground wire.

It does not start jumping the solenoid. I just pulled the starter and tested it. The positive is shorting to ground. Would a kawasaki 650 starter work on this? I have an extra.
