Question 01 YAMAHA 1200GPR (need some input please)

I have been working on my rebuild for almost 7 months and have just about ran out of time/energy. (For info on that, see my rebuild thread below). I met a local guy who gave me a couple options. I was gonna see if any of you can point me in the best direction. Here are my choices.

    Option 1:

He will install (lake ready) a used stock 1200 non-pv motor for $700.00. The motor is currently in a ski that fell off a trailer and is being parted out. It starts now and he said I am welcome to run a comp test on it. It has 120hrs and has never been apart. This option would allow me to part out most of the parts I've bought to put this ski back together. Im a little nervous about the hours but with a good comp test, are the hours very important?

    Option 2:

He will put my motor back together and install it for $500.00. I still need a used case and my crank surfaced so this option will end up costing closer to $1000.00 in the long run and I wont recoup any of my money by selling parts.

I'm leaning toward the first option, Im just nervous out about the hours. What do you think. BTW, the guy seemed reputable. He has contracts with some of the ski rental places in town.

THANKS VERY MUCH FOR ANY INPUT!!! all of you have been great.

1200npv will not fit in your GPR.

Why do you need cases yours look fine from the pics.
The crank uses roller bearings and can not be resurfaced it must be pressed apart to change the bearings. IMO just buy a new OEM crank and call it a day.

thanks beerdart. I did not know it wouldn't fit. I thought the only difference was the power valves. Resurfacing was recommended by the guy who wants to do the work. If it can't be done, maybe he doesn't know what he is doing. I thought the cases were fine too but he recommend a used case.

    Thanks again for the info

hate to say it but if it were me I would not let the guy touch my ski if he told u a non pv 1200 was a replacement for the powervalve engine... nothing is the same on those two engines!

Now if he said a 1300NPV that would fit.

I hear you slydogge. I wish I knew about this site before I got the ski. I'm starting to think I'm gonna take beerdarts advise, buy a crank and do it myself this winter.

At the current labor rates-supplying and installing and setting up a motor(if it was the correct motor) in a GPR for $700 is unbelievable. I charge that alone for the labor to swap motors and set everything up. Ide beware of someone working that cheap and not knowing that a 1200npv is a completly different motor than a 120066v-just my 2 cents-buyer beware.
