Question How do you turn the engine

I pulled the motor to replace the head gasket. But I hit a stumbling point. I want to get the engine lined up so I can put in the camshaft locking tool. Can someone tell me how to turn the engine so I can get it lined up properly. Oh, the engine is out of a 2007 rxt. Any help would be much appreciated

^ This. Make sure you have the crankshaft in the right position also.

If you dont have the right tools, from memory, an 8mm drill bit can be used to lock the crank and a 9 or 10mm bit can be used to lock the cam.

I tried to turn the supercharger when the engine was still in, but it didnt want to turn. I still had the driveshaft attached, would that keep it from turning?

Not unless your pump is locked up.

You mightn't have been trying hard enough. It will be a lot easier to turn with the head off.

Why'd you pull the engine to do the head gasket?

Ya I might not have tried hard enough. I have the spark plugs out. I pulled the engine because I wanted to examine the block closer. I had to replace the timing chain last summer and I also put on a new head gasket. Just wanted to see if I missed a crack somewhere.
