Why does the FZR/FZS eat more gas then the SHO?
Every comparasin test shows the SHO at 18.5GPH and the FZR/FZS at 21.2GPH. What is the reason for the difference? Tuning?
Enjoying my HO for now as it barely uses gas HAHAHAHA

1. Did they test at the same location and under the same conditions (air & H2O temps)?
2. Different riding styles? Throttle postition & duration will impact the test results
3. How far did they ride? Salt vs. fresh? Surf vs. river vs. race corse? (routes & distance)

These are just numbers that I'm finding online from places like boat test etc.

Isn't there a difference in the hull design? I believe thats what makes the FZ just a tick faster than the FX.
Could also make it suck a touch more fuel.

Yeah, theres a definite difference in the hull, that could explain it.

I will say this about the FZ though. When cruising, we have a modded FZR and he actually gets the best fuel economy. He is able to stay out of or low on the boost and that thing is very fuel efficient. Even better than a stock sea doo 215 which gets pretty good. On several rides the FZR got well over 6 mpg. We do not have a SHO in the group so I can not compare but I was pretty impressed with the FZR. Open the throttle though much different story.

My guess is that the tester was more agressive with the FZR, b/c its gear towards performance... IE - less of a focus on economy.

Larger pump tunnel on fzr? More drag, more fuel. Havent ever paid enough attention to my fuel economy. One of these days ill sort it out...sick of wondering how far i can go on a tank.

The SHO hull has more squared off outside chines which doesn;t allow it to "lean into" turns as much as the FZ does. The lifting strakes ont eh SHO do not go all they way to the back of the hull like they do on the FZ, and there is an extra 6 inches of hull length on the back of the SHO and on the SHO plate. The top decks are exactly the same length, but the bottom deck is where the length difference comes in.
