    help pulling jugs off

i was able to get the jugs off, but it was a PITA, i had to have a helper hold the top of the exhaust/cooling unit out of the way (after we removed the front and rear support brackets) and move it back and forth to get to the back bolts of the top of the manifold...... whats the secret to this, it can't really be this hard, we couldn't squeeze the thing out of there either.... just wondering so we can make putting it together easier

is there anything else I should check/change while the top end is apart? Are the reed valves ever an issue?

btw, here's what my wonderful center one looked like...

It was most likely from being seized and being together so long. When putting it back together rub 2 stroke oil all around the cylinder. It help allot.

getting the jug lifted off wasnt the problem, it was getting to those damn bolts on the back of the top manifold, because the top of the exhaust/cooling unit was in the way and we had to move it back and forth, maybe if we could move the gas tank some how....

It is not easy. If the SLT 780 is anything like my SLT 750 then there is no real way to get the exhaust pipe out without first removing the exhaust manifold, which you need to remove the exhaust pipe to do......

Best thing you can do is have a selection of u joints, different size extensions, and wobbles available for your sockets....

The trick is to have it slide forward so you can get to the exhaust manifold. You'll need to unbolt it from the front bracket and unclamp it from the water box as well. At least you're not working on a 2 seater, it's got much less room
Engine removal and installation instructions are in link below:

You aren't supposed to pull the jugs off. I don't know too many women that would appreciate that.

thanks for that link, printed it off and i think i may pull this thing to check the bottom half and make sure its ok before i spend money on a rebuild kit. i though maybe this thing was untouched internally but one of the screws on the carb interiors was completely stripped, so someone went in there at some point.... when you guys rebuild these things with the top end kits, if the bottoms seem ok, do they run pretty long?
