Thread: rev limiter?

    rev limiter?

so last time I had my 95 SL750 out, somehow it filled with water causing the engine to die. I pulled it from the water, yanked the plug and let the water drain from the hull. It started up pretty quickly after that, thats the good news. The bad news is now when I give it more than about 1/2 throttle it sounds like its bouncing off a rev limiter or something. This is out of the water... I wanted to make sure all was well before I took it out again. I never revved it like this before so I'm not sure if this is normal or if there is something wrong. I'm a little hesitant to take it out on the water knowing there may be something wrong. Any suggestions?

You'll easily hit the rev limiter on the trailer because there's no load on the engine.

Just like revving a car in neutral....

Leave it on the trailer and back it into the water. Then fire it up for a test if you're leary.

well I was thinking that may be the case. I wasn't sure though if these things even had rev limiters or if I had done engine damage..

The rev limiter seems to be really low when on the trailer, I guarantee that when the ski is in the water you will never see the limiter again.

Yes very normal to hit the limiter out of the water.
