Gp 1200 Ride Plate , Intake , Impeller Setup

    Hi'

Just wanted to see if my setup looks ok or if there are any mods I should do?

My Gp 1200 was down on holeshot and speed and is currently out of action as im rebuilding the carby's and awaiting parts so want to make sure everything else is in check.

Impeller: Solas (was told its the middle one in the series think maybe XO)
    http://www.greenhulk.net/forums/atta...hmentid=257260

    Intake Grate: Protec
    http://www.greenhulk.net/forums/atta...hmentid=257259

    Nozzle:
    http://www.greenhulk.net/forums/atta...hmentid=257264

Ride Plate: Stock but have an R & D Pro Series ride plate on the way

Gap between Stock Ride Plate and Protec Intake Grate
    http://www.greenhulk.net/forums/atta...hmentid=257258

Few mm gape between intake and hull http://www.greenhulk.net/forums/atta...hmentid=257257

    Questions

    1) Should I shim the front of the ride plate down flush with the intake grate for more speed?

    2) Should I also shim the front of the intake grate so it is flush with the hull?

    3) Can anyone tell which Solas impeller i have from the pics?

Once the new R & D plate arrives ill get some marine sealant and seal up the gaps between the hull and the Intake and Ride plate.

Any other tips would be apprectiated.

    Cheers

The curvy blades kinda look like a Solas Concord impeller. I seem to remember my XO having straight blades. Your wear ring looks like it been rough up quite a bit. Might wanna inspect the impeller to wear ring clearance and pull it out and inspect it. Your pump stator looks different than mine also. I wonder if you have a skat trak. Someone will chime in I'm sure.

    ?

    Hey there Brady..

All good questions.. ultimately its up to you..??

A GP with its nose sticking up in the air for speed can be a porpoising nightmare.?

Lets deal with the questions first..

    1) Should I shim the front of the ride plate down flush with the intake grate for more speed?
Yes... this is an easy and virtually free mod so it won't hurt to try it..
(well it in fact... may pound the bejesus outta you if, it causes the ski to porpoise bad.? easily remedied)

    2) Should I also shim the front of the intake grate so it is flush with the hull?
NO... Leave it the way it is

    3) Can anyone tell which Solas impeller i have from the pics?
?... I'm going to agree with cutlass on the fact it looks more like as concord..
(I have an XO and I'm certain it has straight leading edges.? I'll check tomorrow)

As a guide i am running the same Pro-tec grate and R&D ride plate as You intend to use..
My plate is shimmed fully down at the front..
I have NO issues with porpoising. though I'm running a decent bit of power..
Its pretty well considered that to run a lot of plate angle on these hulls. Will need some motor upgrades.!

What i would be thinking about changing out, Is your steering nozzle..
These are known to fail due to old age and damage from the sun, making them brittle.
If it comes apart on a wide open run.. you and the ski will be parting company in short order..!!
An aftermarket nozzle from a GPR or a stock SHO will swap straight on there no problem..
Better still one for a GP if you can find one..??

Finally shoot a couple of pictures inside the pump stator from the steering nozzle end..
I thing Cutlass might be on to something there..??
I don't remember my pump looking like what you have there when i swapped it out..??

Oh and make sure to use "Genuine" mikuni rebuild kits on the carbs..

looks like a normal GP pump from the other angles. The only difference is that water hose connection on the 3rd pic. Not sure whats up with that

no not that one. The cooling water supply off the pump vein/stator. On all the GP1200 ones I've seen, its a cast in boss with a pressed in fitting. His has a bolt on block with 3 bolts.

I have two pumps in the garage right now. One has the cast boss/pressed fitting and the other has a 3-bolt pickup. Maybe early/late designs? The 3-bolt pickup actually has cast onto it 65U........beats me
