Will the 96-98 Polaris 700 fit into a 02 Freedom?

I found a Polaris 700 engine on craigslist, the guy said that it was supposed to have come out of a 00 Virage. It is a complete engine and he wants $350.00. Problem is the part numbers from the cylinders do not show the same as the Virage on the on the parts look up, the part number on the cylinder shows up as coming off of a 96-98 700. But, the cylinder part numbers are shown as obsolete and sub to the same ones that are on my Freedom?

Can someone tell me if this engine will drop into the Freedom?

    Thanks in advance

It will drop in however I believe the older cylinders were different and produced less horsepower. What is wrong with your current engine? Might be better to fix that one.

The cylinders were at the max diameter when I bought the ski.
Do you know if these can be sleeved without to much trouble? That would be the best route if it is possible.

Contact Jay at Sharps Marine. I think he can do that for you. There are some manufacturers that make pistons bigger than 1.0mm over as well. I think Wiseco and SBT sell 1.5 mm over pistons.

Hmmm! I had not looked into a larger piston yet, the shop that I bought the ski off of had told me that the cylinders were at the max diameter. I found that Wiseco makes up to a 2 mm over. I am going to mic the cylinders and see were they actually are. It will be great if I can just run them up to the machine shop and have them bored out.

Thanks for the recommendation, it may have just saved me a couple of hundred dollars.
