    Yamaha VXR 2011

    Hey guys,

new to the forum, just had a question about winterizing this puppy (yamaha VXR 2011).
I checked the long term storage section of the manual and it seems pretty easy, but there has to be more... I mean the dealership is charging close to $300 for their service? Am I missing something? Any tips, or directions would be greatly appreciated.

I live in the southern part of New Jersey, so it does go below freezing... not sure about doing the anti-freeze, your thoughts?

    Welcome to the forum Jay.
Winterizing your ski and saving the $300 bucks is definitely something you can do in your own drive way.
Familiarize yourself with the search function and the How-to's section. There are a number of very good threads that will walk you through the winterizing process.

Change oil, filter, plugs, add stabil, fog the engine. Pretty simple stuff. 300$ is about what most dealers charge... figure 1.5 hours of labor @ 100$/hr = 150$ + 60$ in parts + dealer markup and your close to $300.

This is pretty detailed, but good advice top to bottom (Post #1 in the thread below). JB

thanks guys, really helping a ton. So is there an overall thought on using the anti freeze? I know its a pretty heated debate, judging from the overall tone of other post. I'm in southern New Jersey, and it does go below freezing, however it will stay in an unheated shed? Does the VXR require anti-freeze? and in my sitaution what do you think the best option is?

Once again guys, I really appreciate all the help.

Jay, MikeFZR is up there in Mass . . . . as cold or colder where you are. I believe he has said he does not use antifreeze so he is the expert on that point. If he chimes in I think he will say so . . .
