Weird retainer on wheel bearing castle nut - Triton Aluminum Trailer

I bought a 95 Triton so I"m going to replace the hubs and bearings because...well they probably just need it.

So I got the cap off, but instead of a coter pin it's got this weird retainer on it. Can anyone provide some info in it? How's it come off, do I just start twisting and pullng on it? Seems like it's gonna be a pain to replace.

    Why can't things be simple???

Since the axle has the ez-lube system, do I need bearing buddies? When I took the cap off theres a zerks fitting, so I can't see the need.

    Thanks!
