    Yamaha 6m6 motor questions.

Are the cylinders nikasil or steel ?

It needs new top end I was looking at the sbt kit with the jugs.

to have the cylinders bored will cost me around a 100 plus 170 for the kit I can get the whole kit for 290.

Are the sbt pistons any good ?

These cylinders are steel and can be bored . I like PRO-X pistons best for these motors. SBT pistons seam to have issues some times with them. $50.00 per hole is about correct pricing for boring and honing. Just be sure you follow the piston makers recommended piston to cyl. clearance. Who ever does your boring and honing just check the ports good to make sure they chafe them if not you could snag a ring.

I looked and Pro-x does not list pistons for the 650 motor just 701cc and up. However this company has some pistons for your 650cc motor www.wsmparts.com Note they also sell complete topend kits with piston/rings/pin/clips/ gaskets/top rod bearings inc. . I have found that you need to get pistons .50 mm ( .020 inches) larger than the bore to clean out most of the out of round cylinder bores if this motor has much time on it. Tommy Jordan
