running the riva sho intake without the prefilter?

I just picked up a used riva intake for my sho. The prefilter was not included in the sale. the installation. instructions warn of severe engine damage without it in place. If you haven't seen the filter on the riva kit, the filter does not have a cotton element. it is only mesh that you can see through.

should I go through the trouble of ordering the pre filter? Is the general consensus to run sans filter?

The pre-filter helps prevent water from entering through the filter, doesn't mean it's going to stop it 100% but will help prevent. It also will stop smaller debris from getting in through the mesh and making it's way to the motor.

Cough Cough, shoulda waited for my Riva power filter kit to go on sale because it has the pre-filter.

There's been some discussion on this in the past. IMO if you ride offshore a lot, get the prefilter. However, some guys (not myself) have noted ~50-100rpm gain without the filter. In my case, my speed was the same with or without the prefilter.

I ride in the gulf, but never in anything over 3 ft waves. I just stay at home on those days. I am not one of those 8 ft into the air wave jumpers either.

You ski in that brown water... Corey, once you hit that first nice roller, you will love it.. If you aren't a wave jumper, then you could probably go without the pre-filter.

I was in the same boat, I didn't have the bracket either. Went to riva today and picked up both.

Good call. You ABSOLUTELY need that bracket or the powerfilter will pop off when offshore.

LOL you don't even have to go offshore for the filter to come off without the bracket.
It would just come off by me touching it sitting in my garage
