Thread: XLT Cavitation

    XLT Cavitation

Lots of posts on this I know. Installed the PPK and sealed it up good but still cavitates real bad below 8 mph. Looking for advice: does this stock impeller look like it needs to be replaced? Tolerances are real tight, no more than .020 in any spot with a feeler gauge. If it needs replacement, do I need to replace the wear ring?

That prop is shot. If it has that much wear, you'll need to replace the wear ring as well

From the pic it looks like the leading edge is all messed up. that can contribute to the cavitation another thing that contributes is the felt piece that goes under the back of the pump shoe coming out allowing air to enter the intake of the pump. just remember common causes of cavitation, Prop damage, air, .not enough pitch.

When you pull the wear ring off if the stainless steel has a gap or is separating from the aluminum it needs replacing. and if you are spending money on a new prop why take a chance on a old wear ring.

OK, so what are my options with the wear ring? I see on the Solas site I can get the entire housing (YFS-HS-155) for $250. Do I have to replace the entire housing, or can I just replace the ring for less $?

Also, any thoughts on the pump housings for sale with replaceable wear rings?

For your set up yes you can get the replaceable plastic liner version. IF you want a replacement used on I have one for sale 100 shipped. PM me if you want it.
As for the prop a solas would be perfect, you have the 800 or the 1200XLT? 800 a solas 11/14.......the 1200 boat I believe the 12/18 is for the stock boat.
