    Jet pump upgrades???

    1. So why aren't our jet pumps using 300 series SS bearings?

    http://www.wd-bearing.com/en/Stainle..._bearings.html

Seems like a great idea to me. Not much more $$ and shouldn't rust if you get water inside the pump.

    Which brings me to :

    2. Why are we not using double lip seals?

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Metric-Oil-S...item255d203703

Only makes sense to have twice the sealing when trying to keep out water, right???

    3. Would it be benficial to use an open style ball bearing and an oil bath (like Sea Doo) VS. the sealed greease bearings?

    http://www.vxb.com/page/bearings/PROD/Kit9869

They seem to have less rolling resistance VS. the grease. And if using the double lip seals, I see no reason why you can't use an oil bath with them?

    4. Ceramic bearings? Cheapest I found are around $100 each bearing.

Claimed to last 3 to 5 times longer than steel bearings. Even less rolling resistance, use very little lubrication, and won't rust either.

Anyone have any thoughts on these?

I get double lip seals from my local bearing house at only about 3 bucks a piece. That's all I ever use for the jet pump and the driveshaft seal. If anyone wants them I can probably get them.

I use open bearings with oil/grease slurry and double lip seals.

Nice idea on the SS bearings and double lip seals.

I'm planning on rebuilding the pumps in both skis this winter and just may go this route. Nothing is wrong with my pumps, but I have never serviced either one and I figure just as soon as I don't touch them they'll crap out right when the weather is great.

Sweet, beerdart I own a MSX 150 are there any special tools I need to pull everything pump-wise apart to do this?

The only special tool needed is the impeller removal tool all other procedures are in the manual or in the FAQ section. Even the stock sealed bearings can be used just remove the seals from the bearings. I mix aprox 50% gear oil with 50% grease till the mixture is pour-able. No need to fill the cavity 2-3 oz is plenty.

[QUOTE=beerdart;1839591 No need to fill the cavity 2-3 oz is plenty.[/QUOTE]That was my next question.

The guy I got the open bearings idea from said he uses synthetic oil.

Any suggestions on what weight to use?
