Xp no beep or power
Day 3 of a 3 day ski trip after changing the fuel lines and replacing my starter motor on my 97XP and all going real good. In the middle of the lake the motor just stops like the key was pulled off. Tried to restart and there was no power, no beep. Tried just checking the fuel guage without the DESS key and nothing. Get back to shore and check my starter motor had come loose.
It was the end of the trip so just took it home to fix it before the next trip in a couple of weeks. Battery had 13.1V
Before I start wrenching some tools what should I be looking for a screwed up bendix or may i have blown a fuse?

Couldn't help myself and had a look, found the 5amp fuse was blown. Would of the loose starter motor caused that or should I be looking for other causes?

with the starter "coming loose" it is loosing the ground connection to the block, and i suppose it is possible, that it could have blown the fuse.
i kinda doubt it though.
replace the fuse, clean ALL connections, tighten starter ( use loctite) and see what happens.

The fuses look to be standard car fuses, is this correct?

Replaced the fuse and still nothing. What next anyone?

did the fuse blow again?
if so, i am betting you have a bad MPEM
if not, could be a bad DESS key, or post.

Could the solenoid have anything to do with it? Is there a fuse in the same box as the solenoid?

Solenoid tested okay. Took the starter out and found the spacer bushing had been damaged and missing about 3mm of the end of the bushing on the drive shaft for the starter. About 1/2 inch around the bushing. Cleaned out most of the metal fragments out of the flywheel housing. I would presum the rest of the fragments would have gone in the housing. Does this cause damage and I guess it will affect the mag?

i would recommend you pull the mag cover, flywheel, and fully inspect & clean.
