    Nozzle ring came loose

I was testing some stuff yesterday and the changeable nozzle ring came loose .It wedged in the steering nozzle at angle and u can guess what happened next. The boat took a hard right and threw me like a rag doll straight forward. At 75 mph( gps reading) that hurt like hell. Luckily that was not at full speed . Low 80's. Got a video of it on my go pro.I think I'm going to weld in the ring. Maybe 82. has anybody else had this happen .

When you put the ring back in be careful not to tighten the screws too much as this pushes the inner edge of the ring in to the water flow path.

I just found out today that my 83mm ring was dislodged. It must have happened last summer, 'cause I haven't ridden my RXP since August...

I was setting the VTS with the Riva extension rod when I found my ring and set screws were missing. I couldn't figure out what happened to them - until I found the gouges in the steering nozzle. Apparently, my reduction nozzle got shot through the steering nozzle. I guess I'll be using the red loctite on the set screws from now on.

Sorry to hear about your wreck.

what many of us has done, is to drill and tap all the way thru the rings, where the set screws are, and use SS bolts or screws ground off flush on the inside.

    Been this way for years.

    nozzle ring

and get a billet steering lock nut also because that is the next thing that will come loose as my rider found out at the recent hydrodrags running the ski off the water into the spectator crowd. also double check your intake grate with every ride.

the same thing happened to my friend not to long ago and he spent a week in the hospital so guys be really carefull when you are dealing with those Riva Nozzle rings and that steering plastic p.o.s nut breaks all the time too and can sink your boat in less that 5 seconds so get a metal one....
