    gtx 185 motor with a rude 2

How strong are the 185 motors with the cast pistons? I have a chance to buy a 05 gtx motor for my 05 rxp that needs a motor at a good price, is it safe or would I have to change pistons? I want to run my rude 2 and a riva ecu. Thanks

Would not chance it without replacing the cast pistons.
    The block is the same.
There have been some 185 cast pistons tuned to 8100 rpm but nothing above green wheels.

To turn higher and put that boost on those pistons would be a first and I doubt would last.

Rapidacellaraction has a gtx 185 motor in his XPL conversion with over a 100 hours on a 2 rude and cast pistons.... He runs a Rotax ecu and a fpr. SO it can be done and be safe.

WOuld it be a safer motor with the forged pistons ofcoarse, but can the cast pistons hold it. YES.

    At what rpm?
Is he using 215 or 185 gear in charger.?

I still will not be the one to reccomend it with riva ecu as "safe"
I would not hesitate with 215 ecu but to turn 8500 on cast is just not good idea.
I'm seeing 15 psi with 2 Rude and Riva ecu.
That's asking alot, a few outings lean and I bet would melt a piston.

Look at the yami side if you want to see what cast does with big boost and high rpm.
    Just saying...

He runs it at 8500 r's and beats theshit out of it. It has a RXP double row flywheel and a 16 tooth gear, so yes it is set up as a RXP or t motor but is cast pistons.

OH and I will say again forged are safer ofcoarse, but it has been done with cast.

Ive never ran a 185 with cast pistons....but i have personally made over 375 wheel hp out of a 1.8l honda on cast pistons and zero issues....just sayin....i say go for it!!!!

I appreciate both sides of the argument, but with several members upgrading pistons, you should be able to score some cheap used 215 forged in the classifieds. My original set were donated to me. Otherwise, I wouldnt now be on a minirude. Its just not worth it to me.
