    Project Discussion

I would like to have a discussion about something I am wanting to start on but was possibly just talked out of.

I was going to put a 300 engine with a Vortech in a STX hull.
I was told that I could not fit the engine in the hull without many modifications.
The main thing mentioned to me is where I will start.
I was told the exhaust manifold will not fit. Could I use the NA 1500 ex manifold since I am not running the oem SC.

could you use th N/A head with the the S/C valves, springs, and cams and make it work. you'd be able to use the n/a exhaust manifold at that point correct?

Thanks. I don't want to spend all the money and in the middle of the build I start regretting it. I wasn't given details when I asked someone about this project. All I got was
"300 motor will not work in a STX hull without a lot of work. The exhaust is different then 15F and will hit the hull." I am trying to find out what the a lot of work part of this statement involves.

I actually had someone else tell me the same thing. I will have a spare NA engine if this all comes together so I will have lots of spare parts to use.

seems like the only clearance issue would be on the exh manifold side. if you run the N/A head with the S/C guts on the S/C bottom end it sounds like it might work w/o having to cut the top deck for clearance. you'd be able to run a big skat pump in it as well to harness the power

That was what I was thinking when I was listening to the voices in my head.
I started debating between Turbo and Vortech. I was thinking the Vortech because Farthing racing already has the kit they put on their open ski so I figured just going with it. Would that be the way to go or should I go with turbo. I did notice that it is not a big price difference between the two.
    Which direction should I go?

personal preference to be honest. the vortech kit would the shortest timeline in terms of inception to completetion. turbo would be nice but you'll spend more time in mock up and fitment but you'll have some unique.

do what you want you can always change your mind and sell what you initially went with to fund the other.

anything specific you are building it for? that might need to be taken into consideration during the build

I just want to build a Kawasaki Mudbug toy. I know I will not be able to run with the conversions here which I was going to do originally. Throw a 300 in a GPR hull. I want to do a total Kawasaki ski, well as much of one as I can.
