I know this is going to sound stupid....

We have several "agencies" in the area who CONSTANTLY pull over all PWC operators. Does the USCG issue a sticker for a "Safety Inspection" like they do for a boat? I actually call the Auxiliary and ask them to do it on the boat, but never thought to ask about a PWC (this is my 1st).

Its pretty much what you described and a few more things i cant name off hand...They check life jackets, date on the fire extinguisher, reg.,whistle, kill switch to see if it works..and a few other things....IF your boat passes all on the list we get a sticker to put on our ski that looks like this....

They are not needed or manditory,BUT if the Coast Guard or DNR sees you have the sticker on your boat they are less likely to pull you over and want to inspect your craft....NOW i know most are in compliance,BUT for me to waist a half hour on shore while they go through my boat VS riding, ill take the riding any day..

I was not aware of the sticker, but I was "boarded" once. Post-inspection, I was issued a "boarding certificate" which was basically the same as the sticker, good for one year, telling all agencies that I was in compliance.

I did that whole safety inspection once, and afterwards I received countless auto and home insurance phone calls and mail pieces. I personally will never do another safety inspection like that as it's merely voluntary.
