i was just curious as to how many of you guys wear helmets to ride? i understand that the racers are likely required to wear them so if their head bounces off another ski or such, they reduce head injury, but what about rec riders? when you guys are doing these 80 mph plus speed runs, do you wear a helmet? whats it like tryin to swim with a helmet?

I think helmets are only needed in certain situations. In fact, coming off a ski with a helmet can be more dangerous than not wearing one at all. When you head/ helmet hits the water it will create a lot of drag and could cause a lot of neck injury.
I think helmets are a good choice for racing and wavejumping, but not necessary if you are just out riding or doing speed runs.

I only wear one in the ocean or on the Columbia Gorge for wave jumping.

Rip'ntear made a great post about helmets when jetskiing a while back. I'd shoot him a PM to see if he can dig it up, but I'm not sure how much hes on the forums. From what I remember, he is an ER nurse and gave good examples of when to wear a helmet, and when not to.
