    Cell phone gps?

I've been using my iPhone gps to get speed readings. I use a free app called max speed, and it seems to me to be right on.Do I really need to go buy a garmin or will this work.I use a heavy duty velcro and stick it on the seadoo.

This will work for the most part. What you will find is that sometimes you will get variance in the readings, as the iPhone won't be as real-time as a dedicated GPS engine will. If you are just using it for general reference you should be OK. I would worry more about it going into the drink.....

lol, I was just cruising around on my rxpx one morning not intending to get wet when I sucked up a rope into the ski... forgot my iphone was in my pocket and into the lake I went to dislodge the rope Luckily the phone still works after drying it out!

I have tried many apps for my phone and done side by side testing with my Garmin. I have not yet found a phone app that is as accurate and real time like my Garmin.

Best phone I ever owned was an LG clamshell phone. It went into the lake once, and through the washing machine twice. I would just take it apart and dry it out and it continued to work just fine. I still have that phone; I use it as an alarm clock;even though it can't be used for calls, it still talks to the network and therefore has precise time on it, and is battery powered so it still works if power goes out. Plus I don't worry about calls & emails waking me up.....

I use the same app when I forget to bring my GPS and have to speed test a ski in the canal, but I put it in one of those waterproof bags.
