    detonation on gp1200r

ok so ever since i bought the ski its always had this know especially under no load sounds like detonation. Is there any ideas out there on how to eliminate or minimis this would the timing advance keyway help to burn the fuel from detonating ?

"IF" it is truly detonation you are hearing, advancing the timing, will only make it worse.

typically, on a PWC you cannot hear the detonation.

check your piston wash, and look for signs of detonation.

it it caused by heat, and can be due to timing, a lean condition, poor / wrong fuel, or actually overheating the cyl(s)

my bet is you are really hearing something else.

cheers for the advice i wonder if it is just piston slap from not being under load. Mainly does it on the flushes you bring the revs up slighty and it start to make a loud knock but i cant say ive heard it while riding it .

Thats not detonation. Most engines will not detonate with "no" load. If the 1200r detonates, it will be around the 5000-6500rpm range in the water. This is where it is leanest, and has the highest timing.
