    780SL pump on a 96 780SLT ski?

Hi, I recently bought a 96 780SLT with trashed impeller and bearings. Question, I have a complete 780SL pump assembly that while shorter overall looks like it will bolt right up. If this will work, what effect will it have on the performance of the ski?
Thanks in advance for answering my question.

The SLT 780 impeller is a better choice. I believe the SL 780 uses a 4 blade impeller. It would most likely work, but I am thinking performance would be better with the SLT 780 impeller. I would either find another SLT impeller or have yours refurbished. Pump rebuild kits for the bearings and seals run about 50 bucks. What condition is the pump stator?

It's shot. Looks like the ski was limped all day long with the bearings all but missing - demolished.
OK presuming the SL assy will work would the shorter length cause planing problems? I guess it won't cost me anything to install try and run it.

Watch your rpms and make sure the SL prop isn't overloading the engine in the bigger SLT

    Welcome to the Hulk.

What year SL 780 is the pump from?

You can install the SL stator on the SLT pump and keep it the same. Otherwise you'll need a different steering cable, no reverse, etc....

As mentioned, the SLT impeller will most likely be different than the SL 780, but maybe not. Need to know what year it's off of to verify.

I don't know what year the SL pump is. It was a bargain off ebay. I swapped the steering nozzle reverse bucket assy off the SLT unit looked like it will work. I am just wondering if shortening the pump installed length will be like shortening the prop shaft on a v-drive boat. I can't remember exactly what that did either, something about hull planing and or setting...

My ski says made in the U.S.A. too but we all know where the engine came from...
I didn't put it in there!

Get yourself another extension ring and then you can keep the long pump setup and use the SL impeller and stator. Then your steering and reverse cables will still fit.

What's the psrt numbers stamped on the impeller?

How trashed is the wear ring/extension?

You can still use the extension and the long pump set up. You'll just need a short (20 3/8" VS. the 24 3/8") drive shaft though. You can then install the extension behind the stator just the Pro 785. It's not the ideal set up for you, but it will work and keep everything set up properly.
