polaris sltx 1050 rebuilt motor or swap to 1200 help please

i have a 1997 sltx 1050 and i planned on getting a rebuilt crank new pistons and gasket set
total that will cost almost 800 dollors then i have to do all the work! so i was thinking maybe a rebuilt 1050 from somewhere but i have heard bad storys about SBT! does anyone know of a good place to buy a quality rebuilt motor from??? and another question i have is how hard would it be to swap in the 1200 instead of putting the 1050 back in? im just looking for more power and i figured i am going to be putting alot of money into this michine and i wanna make sure i will be happy for year to come and it doesnt help that everyone i know that has a jetski are running turbos or superchargers and can do 70 i would like to someday get my sltx to somewhat keep up with them.
just let me know what you guys think.

I don't think an sltx would ever keep up with them. You would be better off selling it and getting a gp1200 r or something that does well into the 60s stock. Even a triple piped 1200 in your sltx would get you mid to upper 60s. Otherwise if you are going to keep the sltx I would rebuild it yourself. With a few mods you can make that ski run in the low 60s, maybe 61 or 62ish

Always go the smallest oversize you can. For 1 if you eat a piston, you will have more room for repair. 2nd The differance in oversize pistons will not give you any noticable gains.

How much are you looking to spend? I would start with a ride plate and a 6 degree wedge. You could go with 92 octane domes to raise the compression a bit. After market reed valves will help. You could change the impeller to a nujet for maybe 1MPH on top. Cylinder porting can add power. And if you could find triple pipes, that would give it a big boost.

I'm looking to spend around 700 or 800 for now until I can find triple pipes ! I have a 6
degree wedge and a 6 vein stator Already. now my question is couldn't I just have my michine shop shave my stock cylinder Heads to raise the compression mind you there like family so they dont charge me much or would you just get a aftermarket heads? and I was thinking about having them bore My carbs to a true 38 mm and then ill rejet them.
Whats your thoughts on that? Im am going to get a ride plate and impeller too

I believe Loveshavinfun has a set of SLTX triple pipes for sale at a very good price.

Cyl head domes and squish bands are re-shaped when machining stock heads for higher compression. Just shaving them will most likely lead to detonation issues.

Or you can just contact Jay at Sharp's marine and see what they can do for you. Maybe he can just port your cyls and leave the single pipe to save you some $$$?
