Carbon seal failure :/
Soooo this would be a follow on from my previous thread...
What happens when a carbon seal fails at WOT?
I was travelling along at WOT, 8300ish rpms, when in a flash I lost all power (I was lucky to not come off) the ski started to take on water quickly as I idled towards the river bank. After idling it for a few seconds, I heard a knock, knock, knock, so I killed the engine and swam it another 10m to the bank. Fortunately I was close to the bank, so the ski didn't take on too much water.
Is this typical of a carbon seal failure? After retrieving the ski from the middle of no where, I drained the water out and fired it up. It appeared to idle fine. I haven't had a chance to investigate further as yet.
Cheers and merry Christmas!

Ohhh indeed I do!! As long as my motor is still strong, this is just a minor set back
It started up and sounded fine when I got it back on the trailer, I'm not sure if the knocking I was hearing was the driveshaft bashing around or what?
But geez it scared the s**t out of me, I was just peaking up to look at the tacho, when it suddenly felt like someone hit the skids!! I orinally thought I stuffed the pump, until I tried to give it a little gas and she didn't respond, just revved up and made a whining noise. Could have been FAR worse! I normally ride off shore.

maybe you stripped the splines on the impellor or snapped a drive shaft?
Sounds worse than just a carbon seal.

I would start with pulling the pump and drive shaft.
The knocking and whining sound like the drive shaft has stripped splines or slipping splines. One thing seems clear, the impeller isn't getting spun via the engine. I remember seeing someone post about the rubber bumper going bad allowing the the shaft to slip out of position and the splines didn't engage any more.

I would still pull the plugs and turn her over. Sounds like your next investment should also be a bilge pump. Yea pull the pump I have a Feeling you will notice your impeller will be loose or backed off the shaft.
