just thought we could consolidate failures to one thread keeping it simple and to the points pointed out without all the bickering and second guessing.

since no others are willing to post up here it is.
whilst obtaining some final lambda readings (of which still failed ) i was WOT for 1min, backed off to give way to a ski boat, got back on the gas and the ski hesitated, i slowed the rpms to around 2000rpm for the next 12sec, the ski was still running rough. i cut the gas lifted the seats and couldnt see the motor from blue smoke. first instincts noticed half moon on the rocker cover gasket blown out and filled the hull with oil, also noticed clear tube on airbox full of oil. removed the plugs and they seemed fine to look at. went home and spent the next day 7hrs removing everything to clean the oil mess from the hull and intake. resealed the rocker cover and filled with oil (it pumped out around 4ltrs) and started the motor, it was running rough at idle and breathing heavy. next was remove the plugs again this time noticing no1 was wetter than the rest, performed leakdown and confirmed holed no1.
looks like detonation caused the hole thus pressurising the c/c blowing out all the oil, (in hind site it was a good thing i backed off when i did as this obviously saved the rest of the motor), the beauty of the motec download showing oil pressure was still ok until i cut the motor. downside the motec was fitted with knock control but for some reason failed to detect and react accordingly.
i always run the same fuel, tuning has always been the same actually running 3 degrees less timing than we had been before.
shit happens when we decide to push the boundries. i am currently replacing 4 pistons, rings and a cylinder block as it was also damaged. noticed a few subtle internal improvements and changes from the earlier 250/260.

That's terrible! I know you'll prob rebuild it better than before. I hope you at least got some good numbers before it happened. Sorry.

hey waz notice the different topped pistons, also the headbolts have a crushed type washer of a copper/brass color (very thick and mushroom shaped) water jacket on the block 1/4 the depth of the 250/260, cam gears different markings, bigger chain, valve spring retainers seem alot deeper to hold the shim in place not much of the shim shows above the retainer.
