    Quick 215 RXP Rebuild Questions

Does the snap ring on the big gear on the starter bendix face towards the block, or does it face rearwards? The diagrams in the manual are not clear. Also when timing the engine, I cant get the 1503 marks on the cam gear level. Its either lower on the left, or lower on the right side. Which way is the right way?

As Far as timming marks here's a picture of good reference. The marks dont go straight up more following crown of cylinder head. Make sure your timming marks are right and align the 3 slotted holes for camgear in center for fine tweaking later.

That is fine, as long as your crank tool is snug, and the cam tool is inserted in the hole. (I don't see the cam tool??) Those marks are rarely level, they are usually like you have them.

Having them slightly slanted in either way doesn't mean that your cam timing is off in either direction. Your cam timing is set with the crank and cam pins, so you are dead-on in either picture if the crank and cam tools are properly installed. All those marks are there for is to ensure that your cam sensor is in the right area. Having it a few degrees one way or the other makes no difference.

    Parts Diagram

I'm really confused now, the parts diagram shows the snap ring side of the gear facing the block, but the gear has wear marks that would indicate it went the other way, anyone know for sure? Part #47 is what I'm referring to?

Well its actually a whole tooth difference on the timing chain between the two pics. I would think that would make a difference. I removed the cam tool before taking the pics.

I'm not sure what snap ring you are referring to, can you post pictures of the starter? on mine the whole bendix thing just falls apart the pto housing holds it into the block side

whichever one is fully retarded, the bolts will be to the right side (clockwise) portion of the slot

lock the crank and cam with the cam bolts loose, tensioner installed as well. then unlock the crank and rotate the crank so the cam bolts are retarded
