Can you adjust oil pump on 99 1200xl Ltd?

I bought two wave runners one a 99 1200xl ltd and a 98 1200xl. When I started the 99 1200xl ltd it smoked like crazy in my driveway. I ran it for a couple minutes and it was rough. I stared up the 98 and it ran like a champ and smoked about 1/10th the other. I remember my friends jet ski that the engine got blown because it was run tooo rich, i was there when he did it. He was like "it will clear itself out" and then a few minutes later bam it died. Can the mixture be adjusted? I see some people say just to run premixed but I'd rather not. I think it is dumping too much oil.

You'll see the marks better if you use a mirror and a light. It's pretty easy to do. Just line up the marks as WFO said, by adjusting the oil pump cable.

You say it is easy to do but the only way I can see to do it is remove the exhaust pipe first. I can't even see it

Ah, the dreaded exhaust pipe! Yes, you'll need to pull the exhaust section from the rubber joint (onto the cat housing) held with Jubilee clamps, and the four bolts holding the pipe onto the top of the manifold. You'll usually need a 3/8" drive socket with a knuckle joint to get the 2 bolts out next to the hull. There are 4 bolts holding the exhaust to the cylinder head, and you'll need to disconnect the 2 rubber pipes connected to the exhaust. One at the front right top, and one underneath which you'll see when you start lifting the exhaust out. The exhaust gasket can be re-used if it looks OK, but I use a little sealant if re-using. Hope this is clear! Cheers, Dave.
