Question Should I buy a 2001 Polaris Virage TX????

    Hello.
I am looking to buy a 2001 Virage TX that has a damaged motor. The ski is excellent shape as far as hull, impeller etc. Showing 90 hours. Engine is partially torn down and rear cylinder rod/ crank bearing is shot. Ball bearings came out and went in engine. Needs crank, piston and jug minimum without doing a full teardown. Owner is asking $500 with a clear title. I have owned and worked on many skis for years just never a Polaris. I am wondering is it worth it? How much to rebuild the motor or buy a rebuilt long block? I don't mind putting some time and money in ski since it is in great shape. Thanks in advance for any advice!

    Jeff

Welcome to the Hulk....Sounds like it is priced right, I think Sharp's may have some NOS cranks, also you could check with John Zigler(A member on here that sells Polaris Parts) Since the crank is gone, you'll be doing a full rebuild, except the 2 cyls and pistons if good. Here's some links for you. Also PM sent. The Virage TX is a great ski,And the motors normally are really reliable,Did they run it out of oil,or flip the ski?

I don't know how they damaged the bearing on the rod/ crank. Rod is floppy around like no rollers are on the bearing. I will definetly have to check the oil injection for that cylinder (right?). The cylinder/ jug does not look to bad but the top of the piston is really pitted up like a foreign object was in the cylinder. The heads were off the other two cylinders but the jugs were still on. The other 2 piston tops and cylinders look great... almost new. The owner does not know too much and it looks like he started to investigate but saw it was major. Looks like all parts are there. No rust. I will send pics in the next few nights. I am going to buy and restore this ski. i love a challenge. Thanks for the links and to the manual. That is killer!

Cool, Another one saved from scrap. So we know your needing 1 cylinder and piston, and a good crank or that one rebuilt. Were are you located? It helps to put people in touch and locating parts close by.
