Do sure what to do now

Ok I have an xl800 year 2000 I rebuilt the cards and tuned it 1/2 on the highs and 1 7/8 on the lows it's will get up and go hits 7000 the drops to 6000 and pulses between 7000 and 6000 but if I choke it a little it runs great I think it's a fuel issue but not sure if it's getting too much or not enuff and should I adjust the lows or highs us I have a manual for a xlt800 and the carb adjustments on that says to adjust the highs at 1/2 and lows at 1 5/8 and 1 3/4 anyideas would be great and thanks for all the help so far

I'm afraid you are too lean up top. Adjust your high speed screws out 1/2-3/4 giving you at least one full turn out. Start there... .

mixture screws is not going to make it surge from 6000 to 7000 back and forth, you have an issue with fuel supply make sure you do not have a clogged filter or a bad pulse line if that's all good you might have to go thru the fuel pumps. You said you rebuild the carbs. but did you go thru the pump side also.

also check the fuel select switch. we see MANY of them fail here, on all machines, not only yamaha.
