    castrol

Came across this oil at walmart..would it be wise to use this on a newly rebuilt, 0 hrs engine on a 717 1996 spx ?
Amsoil is just a pain to get around here in Toronto. I can't find a single dealer that sells the gallons. I can only get the small quarts from crappytire and its too overpriced

The guy I bought my first skidoo 670 summit skidoo ran the Castrol snowmobile oil in it and swear by it. So I ran it too in that sled and never had any problems. I run that in my wifes skidoo 600 and it work fine. But I run the syn seadoo Xp oil in my 800 and 950 motors. Castrol make the seadoo oils for Bombardier. I was alway told seadoo need a special low ash oil for there motors. Not sure if that oil would qualify. Someone else should chime in.

dont think i will use this particular one...it doesnt have api-tc rating. and seadoos dont take tc-w3 at all.
there is another castrol brand that was there also .. let me see if i can post that one too. it was specifically for snowmobiles and was low ash and mentioned api

i'm sure i'll get slammed for this, but isn't the difference just the ash, ?
i was told that tc-w3 isn't going to harm a SD engine at all, just really only gum's up the rave's faster...
also a 717 is much less picky than the 787/951 engines (again, i've been told)

Be careful with oil that is not recommended by the manufacturer. Friend of mine ran some snowmobile oil through his machine and gummed shut his raves within a couple of hours of riding.

720 motor has no rad valve. But just run the seadoo mineral oil. $27 a gallon it use to be $16. It fairly cheap and ran it in my first 95 720 xp for 10 year with no problem. 500 + hr before I sold it. Sometime the seadoo dealer will have a 55 gallon drum and sell it if you have a empty jug for a few dollars cheaper.

I ran Quicksilver synthetic PWC oil from walmart all last summer and it seems to be pretty good for the price. Its a good bit cheaper than seadoo XPS synthetic around here.

I've been running the cheap Wal-Mart brand blue jug stuff in my 717 for 2 years with no issues. Been running it in my other Yamis and Kawi for 6+ years with no oil related failures. I would NOT run the standard TCW-3 in a power valve type engine OR one that has been modified for performance. You'll be fine with the Quicksiver black jug though if you're worried.
